Spooky Bottles

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

To add some ambiance to our apartment over the Halloween season, my wife and I made some spooky bottles. Spooooooooooky… She filled the bottles with various things (including 2 adorable bottled ghosts) and I made labels for them all. I wanted to age the labels with tea and paint spatter but just ran out of time.

Here are some photos of the two collections along with images of the digital files.

I tried to make the Goblin Drool label as cheesy as possible because I figured goblin’s probably aren’t that great at graphic design. Hence the gimmicky font and random starbursts. The basic shape is dripping lips.

Above is the sangria label that I didn’t get a photo of. The three shadow icons down the middle of the sangria label are a bat, fire and an open mouth with sharp teeth.
On a more personal note, here are a few pictures of my kid’s halloween costume. Since he had no say in the matter, we dressed him as a hipster. below are a few photos. His shirt says “That Thing You Like is Dumb”.
I try to keep this blog here more about art & design. So if you’d like more of a post about his costume click on over to Knights of the Changing Table, where I share my experiences of being a work-at-home dad (along with a few other guys).

Another Scrabble Ornament

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Here’s another Christmas tree ornament made up of painted scrabble tiles. This one has three little monsters doing various Christmas-themed activities- tangled in lights, cutting out paper snowmen, and eating a present.

I’m having fun doing these ridiculous little things.

Scrabble Ornament

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

My wife and I went to a tree trimming party this past weekend. The goal was to bring an object that you had either created or found that could be turned into an ornament. I painted a Santa Claus on 5 scrabble tiles that spelled out Santa across the back.

Happy Valentines Day!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Hello Everyone,

I did a little painting as a Valentine’s Day gift for my wife. A little astronaut exploring a rose. Click to make the tiny little guy bigger.

Rose-onaut, oil on wood, 6″x8″

Rose-onaut

I had a blast doing this painting. My intention at this point is to do a bunch of little “flowernaut” images. The possibilities are endless. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them but they’d be fun to produce. Expect to see more of these over the next few months.
