A Bunch of Stuff

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

So it’s been too long since I’ve updated and I’ve got several new projects out or coming out soon.

Image Comics is publishing Tales of the Starlight Drive-In, written by Mike San Giacomo and illustrated by 21 artists including myself and several other of my Ten Ton studio mates. It comes out June 4th and you can order it through your local comic shop or Amazon. The cover by Dale Beyer, Jr is below.

Catalyst Game Labs has recently released three Shadowrun resource books that I provided some interior illustrations for. Below are the titles with the cover images (not by me) and links to more info.

I’ve also got several more Shadowrun books coming out including Ghost Cartels and Unwired. You can find more information about both of them here.

There are many more exciting projects coming out soon and as soon as I have more information on them, like release dates and links to purchase, I’ll update again.

Back from San Diego!!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

The San Diego Comic Convention was a blast this year. Nothing out of line happened, which was kind of nice. No unprovoked homeless people threw empty bottles at my head this year. So, really, that’s gotta be a good year.
There were an unbelievable number of people in attendance. Both Friday and Saturday were sold out. I actually read somewhere that Sunday, traditionally the slowest day of the con, sold out too. Crazy. That con is getting to big for it’s own good.

Anyways, I’ve posted all of my photos from the con to the Ten Ton message boards, along with the other three Ten Ton members to go. Check out the photos and let us know how the con went for you!

I met some really cool people and gained some leads on a few projects. Hopefully they’ll pan out and, when they do, you can read about it here!

San Diego Comic Con

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Like everybody else in the known universe, I’ll be at the San Diego Comic Convention this weekend. I didn’t get a booth this year with my Ten Ton cronies so I’ll just be wandering around the floor while trying not to spend all of my money on sketchbooks and toys. Along with me, others from the Ten Ton crew will be there including Reilly Brown, Khoi Pham and Chris Burnham. Things will happen. Probably not all of it good.

I’ll post a little write-up afterwards about how things went. Perhaps photos will be included. I just don’t know. The future isn’t that clear.

Weekly Influence

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Hello everyone!

I’ve started writing a column over at Ten Ton Studios called “Weekly Influence.” As the title title implies, new entries arrive weekly. The “Influence” is musings on artists that have had an effect on the way that I work as an illustrator. Most of the time, the columns will concern artists I have been a fan of for several years. With less frequency, as is the first column, the subject was someone I’ve only recently discovered but whom I am studying in order to improve. Some of the people I write about everyone will know while others will more obscure.

I’m doing this exercise for multiple reasons. One hope is that I can introduce people to new artists that they’ve never seen before. Illustrators throughout time, in many disciplines, are constantly solving the problem of telling stories on the page. Perhaps by studying the ways others (comic and non-comic related image makers alike) look at similar issues, we can learn from them. Secondly, maybe talking about why these artists originally influenced me will help solidify my own thoughts and processes allowing me to grow a bit more.

Every week the column is posted on Sunday to the main page at tentonstudios.com and continues in the forum. I’ve already written the first three entries so wander over and find out who I chose. Then join our forums and discuss their influence on our industry! Exploring and discussing things can only lead to growth for all involved.
