New Experiments!

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Hello All,

I’ve recently been experimenting with ways to mix the transparency of gouache with the opaqueness of oils. How could I get something like that? How about actually layering gouache with oils?!

It took a bit to figure out the best way to accomplish what I was going for. I started with watercolor paper and gouache but I had to seal the whole thing so the oil paints wouldn’t damage the paper. I tried a few things but the first ones I tried were soaking into the paper and turning cloudy, totally ruining all the painting I was doing in gouache. Eventually I stumbled upon Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. A few thin coats of that and the paper was sealed. I was free to apply the oils.

Below is my most successful result to date. It’s an unused sketch for the role-playing game Shadowrun that I decided to finish off. The technique needs some refinement but I’m pretty happy with the direction it’s going.

I’ve also uploaded it to the color gaming gallery.

I’m currently working on this year’s Christmas card with this technique. Of course, the subject matter is quite different. More on that as I finish it.

Hey all!

I just learned that three more of my projects have been published.

I have 10 illustrations in the newest set of cards for White Wolf’s Vampire:The Eternal Struggle called “Lords of the Night.” I’ve updated the color gaming gallery with a few of them. You can get the booster packs from several places, including White Wolf’s website.

Also from White Wolf comes World of Darkness: Reliquary, an expansion book for the World of Darkness. I did five interior illustrations for the book and I’ve updated the black and white gaming gallery with a few of them. Below is the cover (which I didn’t do) so you can
find it on your bookseller’s shelf!

Lastly, from Catalyst Game Labs come my first contribution to Shadowrun, the cyberpunk role-playing game set in 2070. I did four interior illustrations for the new rule book called “Emergence“. I’ve added them to the black and white gaming gallery. You can order it from Amazon or your local bookseller. Below is the cover (which, I didn’t do).

I’m waiting for a few more projects to come out soon and I’ll update this here front page when they do!

World of Darkness:Urban Legends

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Hey all,

I just found out that another role-playing game book with my illustrations came out last month. From White Wolf Publishing, the book is called “World of Darkness: Urban Legends.” The cover (which I didn’t do) is below.

The three pieces I contributed to the book are my first fully digital illustrations. Since this project, which I completed last December, I’ve transitioned into doing all of my gaming work digitally.

You can see two of my images for the book in the updated grayscale gallery!

To order the book, visit White Wolf or Amazon!
